New Day and a new door!

Published by Steve under Computer, Freelance Work, Home Repair

I took today off to oversea the new garage door installation. The two guys from Jim’s Garage Door Service showed up at Noon. They said it would take about 2 hours and it did. They where very nice and did a good job.

I also needed to get some work done on a web site that I totally forgot to work on over the weekend. So today proved to be very productive. Shannon worked in the back yard all day and got the grass seed prep work done and planted more bulbs and seeds. Most of this stuff should have been in the ground a week or more ago but weather wasn’t nice to us this year.

We have some flowers about to bloom in the front beds. They got in the ground before the wet and bad weather hit.

Here is a little comparison of the old garage door and the new one.

The new door is so quite it’s freaky!

Now once the garden and yard start to take on a little more shape I’ll include some pictures.

New Garage Door

Published by Steve under Home Repair

I called Friday about getting a new garage door and opener installed.

Today Jim’s Door Service took measurments and called me back. He quoated me a price and will be installing everything Tuesday. So I took Tuesday off work to be home when he installs the new insulated garage door and Craftsman 1/2 HP Belt drive opener.

I can’t wait to push the button!

My kingdom for a throne!

Published by Steve under Home Repair

We had a slight leak from the toilet bolts that hold the tank to the stool so they needed to be replaced. Thus begins the nightmare!

I decided to replace all the innards while it was appart and it was obvious they all were pretty old.

Everything was going fairly well. Minor set backs upon trying to remove the very old handle and replace it with a new one. The old one was corroded past the point of removal. I ended up sawing the thing in half to get it off.

All the other parts came off/out easily until I got to the large nut holding the plastic tube that the flapper sits on. Someone got the bright idea of using an old metal nut on a plastic pipe. Corrosion and years made the metal nut glued to the plastic. I had to call in my friends from Lee’s Summit to help get the dang thing off. We ended up sawing through the plastic pipe and then the nut fell of when we squeezed the pipe smaller.

Everything flowed smoothly after that and only took about fifteen minutes to get everything installed and the toilet back up and running.

Later that same day…
I visited with my friend Jim who had his kitchen remodeled. Here are the before and after photos. It looks GREAT!!! I love his sink and fridge! His fridge has cool blue lights on the water and ice front.

I have kitchen envy!

Easy Come - Easy Gone

Published by Steve under Home Repair

My income tax money showed up as a direct deposit Friday and I made a bee line to Lowe’s to get our new Fridge.

Unfortunately the one we had picked out a couple of weeks ago was not there (close out special that was not marked as a “close out special”). So they called around to the other stores and nothing! So we took a look around and found several others near the price range and then the comparison shopping begun!

I finally settled on this one from GE

It will be delivered on Saturday, April 2, 2005. Very exciting. Now I have a week to move the old one to the garage and put in a water line for the new one.

On Monday (March 28, 2005) the people from the garage door company are coming out and measuring my door for a new one. I will go to Sears today and get the new door opener.

So my income tax money is quickly depleating. But it’s all going to great home improvements!!!

Friday Eve

Published by Steve under Computer, Home Repair

I hope I get my income tax return money either tonight or Friday! I have many plans for that money. I just hope it stretches and I can do all the home improvements I wanted to do this Spring. On the list (in no particular order): New Garage Door & Opener, two Ceiling Fans, Dining Room Light, new Side By Side Fridge.

I’m going to try some adjustments to this blog tonight and this weekend, so it’s gonna go through changes, bear with me.
